Heat makes animals thirsty. Put a bowl of water with marbles, or stones in the garden. This bar will help bees, birds on hot days. Want to attract birds, dragonflies and damselflies all year round? Stick to the rules
Are you a tenant of Centrada and want to tackle your garden? Centrada provides a path to the front door, shed and/or gate and a back path. You can decide the rest! Do pay attention to the rules for a Centrada garden. For example, you may not put rubbish in the garden and you may not plant trees or shrubs with deep roots. These include oak, ash, chestnut, beech and bamboo. The municipality also has rules. For example, for fire baskets.

Ask or give help!
Can't maintain your garden? No worries! IDO volunteers are happy to help with small jobs. Or would you like to give others a hand? That will make your garden and your neighbour happy.
Here's how to arrange it:
- Visit an IDO drop-in centre in the Waterwijk (Oostzeestraat 7-11), Open Haven (Fjord 155) or Trefpunt (Punter 35-27).
- Call in the Kluswinkel for pruning or other garden jobs.

The garden of...
Monique Pol lives for and in her green garden. "My green garden is my hobby and it is my gym," says Monique. Together with a landscaper, Monique designed her green garden. There are no tiles in her garden, but all the more native trees, plants, herbs and flowers. And as a result, Monique enjoys the benefits of a green garden: cooler in summer, less water needed in dry periods and her garden is teeming with insects.

René has lived in Lelystad for over twenty years. His large garden in De Landerijen offers plenty of room for greenery and biodiversity (many different animals and plants). The grass is deliberately a bit higher, so many animals can shelter in it. And the birds love the wide hedge. Even the roof is green! "All kinds of animals live here. For instance, a hedgehog passes by regularly and we regularly see a kingfisher at the pond. It is very green here and all sorts of things walk and fly.". Mr and Mrs Koot live in a corner house of Centrada in the Zuiderzeewijk. For years, they have been lovingly working on their green garden. And it shows! The garden is full of life. The pond and birdhouses make it a nice place not only for residents, but also for animals. "We love animals. We love sharing our garden with them," says Mrs Koot with a smile.
