Ambitions
Lelystad is a green municipality with lots of nature. We want to make good use of it and improve it. Therefore, together with residents, nature organisations and other partners, we have developed the Agenda Nature. This is a plan to strengthen and improve nature in and around the city in the coming years. You too can participate. Because together we are 1 for nature!
What we did in 2025
Lelystad is a city full of nature: a green spot is never far away here. And by 2025, we will have made the city even greener. An even greener and nature-rich Lelystad is good for our health and also nicer to live in for people and animals. Take a look at some of our 2025 projects?

We have a lot of nature in Lelystad. By this we do not only mean nature in the woods and nature reserves. It also includes nature in your backyard and on the roadsides. Together, all this nature ensures a pleasant life in the city for people and animals. New nature is unique in Lelystad. These are nature areas created by man, such as: Nationaal Park Nieuw Land (with the Oostvaardersplassen and Marker Wadden), Natuurpark Lelystad, the Bultpark and the Zuigerplasbos. To ensure this, we want to protect, strengthen or expand nature. Together, we are committed to nature and to the future. Because a healthy nature is good for all of us.
This is already happeningThe Nature Agenda
Since the end of 2022, we have been working together with residents and partners on a plan for nature in Lelystad: the Nature Agenda. This plan consists of two parts: a strategy (Strategy Agenda Nature 2030) and programme (Programme Van Groen Dromen naar Groen Doen 2024-2027). The Strategy contains the vision and starting points for nature until 2030. We want nature to be and remain important in Lelystad. And that nature in the city and the surrounding area are connected. This makes it a nice place to live and work in Lelystad. This strategy was adopted in May 2023.
The programme Van Groen Dromen naar Groen Doen (From Green Dreams to Green Action) describes how we will develop our strategy into projects for the period 2024-2027. During this period, we will focus on building a strong foundation for a city that takes good care of nature (nature-inclusive) and adapts to the climate (climate-adaptive). We will do this, for example, by creating new manuals and rules. And improving areas in and around the city by greening or adapting them.
