Month of the Green Garden 2025
Nature in Lelystad is unique and belongs to us all. That is why April is dedicated to nature and the garden. Together with Landschapsbeheer Flevoland, FlevoMeer Library Lelystad, Centrada and IVN Flevoland, the Lelystad Municipality will get to work during Green Garden Month 2025. Throughout the month of April, there will be various activities to do around nature in Lelystad. For young and old and for professionals and residents!
This is what we will do

Make a free garden plan
Have a free sketch made of your garden on Thursday evening 17 April at the FlevoMeer Library. With the Free Garden Sketch, local gardeners will give you practical tips and inspiration for greening your garden. Heleen Vos and Jikke Hamerpagt are on hand to help. It does not matter what kind of garden you have. Bring the dimensions of your garden and your wish list. Then you can work together with the gardener during this inspiring evening. Making the garden sketch takes about half an hour. Would you like to participate? Then reserve your slot, because full = full!

Storytelling on vegetable gardening
On Wednesday 23 April, there will be another storytelling performance at FlevoMeer Library Lelystad. At 11:00 (during the MamaCafé) and at 15:00, reading advisor Marijke will read with the storytelling box. This time, the storytelling performance is all about discovering the vegetable garden. Once again, Marijke has found a suitable book to go with the theme: "Princess Arabella and the Kitchen Prince" by author and illustrator Mylo Freeman. The storytelling performance is aimed at children aged 1.5 to 7 and admission is free. Afterwards, everyone will receive a vegetable garden to take home!

Exhibition at the town hall
The weather in Lelystad is changing. We face more frequent heavy rain showers, increasing heat and strong winds. This can cause inconvenience. For example, because there is not enough water in summer. Because the streets flood. Or because a tree blows onto your car. To prevent this, the municipality is working on a climate-proof future. Get inspired in April and find out what you can do, at the exhibition in City Hall. In this exhibition, you will learn how we prepare for the future and how we protect ourselves against extreme weather conditions.

Snack machine for the bees
To kick off the month of April, Lelystad Municipality will unveil a 'candy machine for the bees'. This travelling vending machine is not filled with sweets and biscuits, but with the Lelystad flower seed mix. This seed mix is specially made for Lelystad's nature. With plants and flowers that grow well on our soil. Residents can get a free seed bag from the vending machine. You will find the vending machine at the FlevoMeer Library in April!

Count Insects with us!
Together, we will work for Lelystad's smallest inhabitants: insects! Join in and count butterflies, moths or bumblebees. Difficult? No way, everyone can join in! On 22 April there will be a kick-off meeting at the town hall. You are welcome from 19:30h for a cup of coffee. At 20:00h we will start the programme. During this meeting, you will learn everything you always wanted to know about butterflies and bumblebees and we will explain exactly what participation in the TIM project entails. Even if you do not yet know whether you want to participate, you are welcome!

Webinar 'Make your neighbourhood blossom
Do you dream of a green, cosy street? More and more people in Flevoland are working together with their neighbours to green their neighbourhoods. It looks great, and it creates more atmosphere and a nicer place to live - for people and animals alike! Perhaps some paving stones in your street could make way for a colourful façade garden. Or maybe there is a bare patch of land near the trees that could use some colour. Whatever your plans, this webinar on Tuesday 15 April will help you get started! Find out what is involved, get practical tips and be inspired by successful neighbourhood projects.

Steenbreek Inspiration Day in Lelystad
On 10 April, Lelystad will organise the national Steenbreek Inspiration Day for civil servants. Here, colleagues from other municipalities, water boards, provinces and other organisations will come together to work on climate issues. On Thursday 10 April 2025, we will explore how green policy is concretely put into practice. Together with inspiring speakers, practical examples, interactive sessions and excursions, we will discover ways to give biodiversity, climate adaptation and resident participation hands and feet.
The tile taxi will be running again!
In April, May and June, the Tegeltaxi will run again! Tiles that have been replaced by plants can be collected free of charge by the Tegeltaxi on 7 April, 6 May and 2 June. A Tile Taxi is a service for collecting and disposing of old tiles. Anyone can sign up for the Tegeltaxi. With this service, Lelystad municipality wants to make greening gardens even easier.

Lelystad Municipality wants to capture the most beautiful gardens in a video or photo report. Are you proud of your garden and would you like to show what is growing and flourishing there? Then we would love to hear from you! Send an e-mail to natuurrijklelystad@lelystad.nl with the subject 'My sample garden' and let us know in the message why you are so happy with your garden. Who knows, we might soon be on your doorstep! A fun (green!) prize is available for participants.
