Come along on 20 September 2026 to the legendary Bird Festival at the Oostvaardersplassen visitor centre in Lelystad. A day for young and old alike, dedicated to birds and the Natura 2000 site where they live, as well as far beyond.
For birdwatchers and nature lovers, a full-day programme has been organised featuring talks, excursions and a ‘Big Morning’. There will also be an information market covering optics, birding trips, books and much more. Admission to the event is free. Tickets for the excursions and lectures are available at the information stand. A unique feature of this year’s event is the presence of a taxidermist and the opportunity to watch birds being ringed.
Please cycle to Kitsweg 1 in Lelystad whenever possible. Parking is free.

Fascinating talks
This year, the Bird Festival once again welcomes a line-up of impressive guests for a variety of talks, focusing in particular on birds. Camilla Dreef, known from the TV programme *BinnensteBuiten* and the Dutch Society for the Protection of Birds, will give a talk on spoonbills; Koen Stork is organising a ‘mystery bird’ competition with great prizes; and Christian Brinkman will give a talk on birdwatching at Rottumerplaat.
